At the end of each semester, I receive a report for student evaluations and look for feedback to determine if I’m on track. This semester, I saw this beautiful note left as a “strength” of the course:
“One main strength of this course is that it helps you think, while Professor Shadwill encourages you to show that you are capable of doing the work. She is the nicest woman who is always willing to help. She has made my first year of English in college worthwhile.”
This comment is exactly why I do what I do, and I appreciate this wonderful young adult’s validation that I’m still adhering to my teaching philosophy. I get discouraged, but comments like these — I know why I’m here.
