#ThankfulThursday Freewriting* Style

I’m where I need to be. The janitor gives me hugs, says I look 20-25. Couldn’t believe I’m pushing 40, and brought me boatloads of daffodil bulbs. My colleague to my right is spunky and quirky with kids similar to mine. My colleague to my left is absolutely adorable and reminds me of someone I’ve known. Can’t quite place it. My colleague across the hall is my fellow gluten avoider. Neither of us can eat pizza at the office when someone brings it (unless we want to suffer severe gastrointestinal distress for days upon end). The secretary in my building is an absolute peach! Super sweet, always comments on my outfits and earrings, says “hey, beautiful,” and just generally makes my day with her cheerful personality. The secretary in the next building over — oh my! Adorable! Love her! So sweet, always smiling. Her smile beams right through that mask, even! Is it a drive? Yes. Is there a location closer to home? Yes. But are these people there? Nope! I’m right where I’m meant to be on this part of my journey!

*Freewriting is a method I encourage students to use when generating ideas for their work. The goal is to get all your ideas out without worrying about grammar, spelling, structure, or transitions. Write what comes to mind, and then revise and edit as you refine your particular piece.
