#TutoringTuesday Rhetorical Bonus: Kairos

As a bonus, we’ll be discussing kairos this week — because timing is everything! While most literature refers to ethos, pathos, and logos as the rhetorical triangle, never underestimate the appeal of kairos in rhetoric. This semester’s example has been the fact that we ran out of typical names for tropical storms in mid-September. Mentioning such a fact when discussing climate change would be incorporating kairos into your argument. Think about the lyrical content of many Vietnam era songs — many were influenced by the social and political climate at the time. Take into account the events that influence a piece of rhetoric. Chances are, you’ll notice writers draw upon those events to further their arguments.
