#MondayMemories First Day Teaching

My nerves kept me on edge the entire drive to campus. I had left with plenty of time to find a parking space and thought I knew where my first class was. I arrived on campus with half an hour to park, walk to the classroom, and settle into the room before beginning my introductory lecture. How wrong I was!

I drove around the many parking lots attempting to find a spot. Of course, the spaces were packed, and lines of cars formed. Time flew by, and my patience ran out. I had 10 minutes left to park! I finally found a spot, parked, and looked at the campus map compared to where I was. I would NOT make it in time to class! As I trudged from the far parking lot towards my destination, I emailed my class from my phone. Please don’t leave, students. I promise I’m coming! I angrily sped walked, huffing and puffing in the summer heat, cursing my first day misfortune.

Finally, I arrived in the classroom — 10 minutes late. Sweaty, hot, and likely flushed, I apologized to the class for being tardy and shared my advice about parking. Thankfully, I learned my lesson and became accustomed to stalked the parking lot directly across from that building regularly.
