Before we moved out of NYC, I spent roughly seven years dancing — ballet, tap, jazz, and even comedy at one point. Every year I was always the shorter girl in class, and the taller girls I danced with absolutely loved how tiny I was compared to them. In particular, two of the tallest girls — sisters — enjoyed picking me up by my arms and legs and spinning around in circles. We’d laugh and laugh until we all got too dizzy, then we’d collapse in a giggle heap on the floor until dance lessons started. The bonds formed during dance classes really made the experience that much more enjoyable.
