Mother’s day was fast approaching, and my manager asked me to place teacup roses in the front entrance to attract customers. I pulled the L-cart full of boxed up arrangements to the front and began clearing room on the tables for my task. Some of the arrangements were set in cute little tea cups, while others were placed in ceramic ladybugs. I set to work sorting by color and trying to make the display eye-catching.
After three boxes in, I found my groove. I reached into the next box to pull out a couple more roses — and out scampered a garden spider! Caught off guard, I doubled back and let out a shriek of terror. Almost immediately I remembered I was at work, and I turned to see customers staring befuddled at me. “There was a spider,” I stammered, embarrassment painting my face. They seemed slightly amused as they walked into the store. I stood up and took a moment to collect myself. Oops!
