On Friday afternoon I will be taking the Graduate Record Examination — better known as the GRE to anyone interested in graduate school. I hadn’t needed to take the test for entrance into my master’s program, but six of the ten PhD programs I’m applying to require the test as a measure of candidates’ aptitude. Therefore, I must complete two essays, verbal questions, and mathematical questions in order to prove myself to the powers that be!
Given my abilities to churn out blog posts, discussion posts, peer responses, and multiple page papers, I have zero concerns about writing five to six paragraph essays in a thirty minute span. My past experience with the SAT and ACT during high school also reassures me that this task will not challenge me in the least. In fact, the most challenging requirements of the test were fees and scheduling. Otherwise, I feel well prepared to face the GRE.
Once I have completed the test, my application process can steamroll ahead — again, my biggest issue lies with the fees involved! I am motivated to take the next logical step on my path to becoming a tenure-track professor.
